Fifth Graders Started a Kindness Club — and Bullied Kids Are Already Feeling the Difference
At Parker Elementary School in Elk River, Minnesota, a group of fifth graders launched a student-led Kindness Club after seeing classmates get bullied. The ripple effect spread through the whole school.
At Parker Elementary School in Elk River, Minnesota, a group of fifth graders decided to do something about bullying.
Seven students — Ady, Ava Kallunki, Elsie Ostmoe, Jillian Roberts, Lauren Havemeier, Tessa Boche, and Noah Lambertz — formed the school's first Kindness Club. They created a box where students could drop notes about acts of kindness they had witnessed. Before the holidays, they launched Operation Candy Cane, giving every student in the school a small candy cane with a handwritten note from the club.
They also began rehearsing a play based on the book "Stop," about a girl who is bullied and the friend who helps her.
The club's formation inspired kindness activity throughout the school, extending far beyond the seven students who started it.
"Bullied kids are already benefiting," reported Good News Network — because a handful of ten-year-olds decided that was not okay.
